Winter’s Brew

The smells of Sumatra high-stepping in my head.

Oily espresso beans glistening like sapphires in the hopper.

The whir of beans grinding, then a molasses drip by drip of café liquid velvet.

The aerated whistling of foamy cream creating clouds of tiny iridescent bubbles.

Drizzled with a cross-hatch of caramel.

Glowing warmth wrapped around my hands and first sipped in the frosty winter morning.

Mmm, coffee.
